A different way of life

Friends readers, Hello!

Today we are going to speak about people, a little bit special and different from us, the Amish. This population, native of Switzerland, Germany and Alsace, was created in 1693 by Jackob Amman. Furthermore, they practice the Protestant religion. They take seriously the biblical orders. The church isn’t with the state. They are thus anti-modernist. For them, the modernization takes away them from God.

These people live as in olden days, in the Middle Ages. They don’t wish to get modernized. They plough their farmlands with horses and moves only in carriage or on foot. Moreover, they don’t have electricity. It is a jump in past ! Surprising ! Clothes also mark this delay in the society. The women have no right to have the clothes of the men and conversely. Who would like to live without telephone, computer, music ? Who would like to get dressed as everybody? Today, nobody!

If we ask you to go to this community, which you would say? Will you be near to change your habits? For my part, that would not be possible to live all my life like that. Maybe 2/3 days but no more.

Between 16 and 20, during a few days, the young people have the right to go into town to know the modern society. They have the right to drink alcohol and to smoke. For us, it is the daily life. But for them, it is exceptional ! For them, it is the "rite of passage". At the end, the teenagers can ask to be baptized. In this case, they will stay all their life in the community.

What also shocked me ; it is that people of the same family get married between them and only in November. Personally, I would not like to get married to my cousin and what we choose me my own wedding date. There are risks for the future babies to have diseases because of that and they don"t realize
 it ! Strange, no ?

On one hand, it is true that the modernization can damage with regard to our health, but to cut itself of the world to be self-sufficient, I find that it is extreme as idea.

But I agree with them! The education is very important! They learn the mathematics, English, sciences, geography and history. The teachers also come from the Amish community. At the age of twelve, they leave the school, but continue to become enlightened.

Samuel Mullet, 66 years old, social leader and monk of an Amish community and his members are guilty of having made the resentful crimes on members of their community. They cut the beard of the men but also the hairs of the women were shaved. They "attacked them physically, and cropped them as animals ".

Mullet had taken himself for a God over the laws by ordering to the members of his clan to make a campaign of terror against nine members who showed him signs of resistance. Five attacks were spent at night. The aggressors violently took out of the bed the victims.

These attacks aimed at humbling the victims, the beard being the symbol of the man. It must not be any more cut when the man had got married.

They wished that their victims return in the Amish community.
